Michael Sherwood was born the son of 40's big band leader, Bobby Sherwood.
Because of the strong musical influences across generations of his family
tree, he began
developing his talent at the early age of five. Michael grew
up surrounded by some of the
greatest entertainers in American music at his
home in Vegas circa 1960. This exposure,
combined with his astute ear, led
him to his first professional orchestral gig touring
nationally with Tony
Orlando at the age of 17.
After landing in Los Angeles in 1980, Michael was a staff writer with
Warner/Chappell Music for
six years. He was later recruited to tour with
80's rock band Air Supply, performing keys
and vocals and writing as well.
After experiencing life on the road and numerous
collaborations with artists
such as YES, Michael Jackson, Toto and Lisa Loeb, Michael
has established a
solid reputation for his effortless ability to move from genre to genre.
Over the last 10 years he applied these skills to his TV/radio commercial
work as a
Sr. Composer with Elias Arts Music LA and NY.
Currently, Michael has expanded his musical reach to include TV and film
work as a
freelance composer and music director who thrives on
collaboration. He's an arranger
who orchestrates and a long-time lyricist
and composer of songs. Steeped in vintage keys,
Michael rips on the B-3,
plays Grand Piano, Wurli, Fender Rhodes, Clavinet and the like with
phenomenal ease and aptitude. Working from his home studio in West Hills, CA
he possesses an extensive sample library as a MOTU man with file sharing
capabilities.
Recognized as an accomplished virtuoso among his peers,
Michael is the ultimate
musician's musician.
